Admonishment

What is an Admonishment?

A student may be issued an admonishment by the Office of Student Conduct if the College was notified of behavior or a violation, but is not taking disciplinary action. Repetition of behavior may result in student conduct charges. It serves as an official warning, communicates the reported issue, and provides students an opportunity for reflection and action without more severe outcomes.

Admonishment Types

Admonishment letters can be used for a variety of instances, but common types of admonishment letters are:

On-Campus Cleanliness

On-campus residents are expected to clean their rooms properly to prevent trash accumulation, mildew, insects, and other pests.

Off-Campus Trash

Students who live off-campus are expected to maintain their property, including trash removal to prevent trash accumulation, insects, and other pests in the neighborhood.

Off-Campus Noise Disturbances

Off-campus residents or a a function hosted by a Recognized Student Organization was reported for violating the Ewing Township Noise Ordinance.

Copyright Violation

A student or Recognized Student Organization may have infringed upon intellectual property, copyright, trademark, or patent and violated the Computer Access Agreement.

What does it mean if I received an Admonishment letter?

  • It’s not a formal conduct violation. An admonishment serves as a warning, but you are not charged with a policy violation.

  • It does stay on file. The Office of Student Conduct keeps a record, and it can be considered if you’re involved in future incidents.

  • It is not reportable history. Admonishments are not reported out as part of record checks unless there are repeated issues that lead to conduct charges.

  • It’s a learning opportunity. Think of it as a chance to reflect and take corrective action before more serious consequences might come into play.
